Course Overview
During a recent Masters, I researched and compiled a Master List of all Futurisms genres, which I posted on Monoskop, an arts Wiki. The list is 250+ and growing, and working on it really opened up that many imaginative pathways for me. Every entry is a way of seeing. It's so much more than Indigenous Futurism and Afrofuturism. It's overwhelming in the best way!
Each entry on this list also needs its own Monoskop page full of links, which I have started to create. The list is not static, it is merely a seed which continues to evolve. I've presented it at talks and swapped it around at events like the Dubai Future Forum, gathering feedback and additions.
I'm known for naming, creating and visualizing genres and cultural projects, as well as helping others do the same. Over 25 entries on this list are my own additions. Now that I've joined the futures arena more officially, I'm starting to do this with other futurists--co-creating terms and genres. It has helped a few peers define and visualize new genres and topical niches already.

Everything from massive categories like Afrofuturisms to niche and creative subcultures like Dillipunk. What's missing? What needs tweaking? We'll look at this list together and discuss.
This will result in new additions, edits, debates, new visualizations and new awarenesses. This can also result in students finding or creating their own preferred futurisms niche to water and grow, as well as finding new peers to grow with and give flowers to.

Who Is This Course For?
This course is designed for futurists and the future-curious--those who feel called to the arena of futurisms but who may need an entry point, a welcome tour, and a way to visualize things. It focuses primarily on defining futures through visualizations and art, definitions, research terms and linked communities via Monoskop (an arts Wiki) and social media. It also focuses on getting an "aerial view" of the entire field, showing just how active and expansive the futurisms conversation is at the moment, and how many other people, groups and institutions are deep in the work.

Real-World Project
Students must choose at least one existing genre on the master list or create their own. They must use it to create some kind of final output that makes it clear exactly what this genre is and is about. This can take the form of visualizations, an essay, a series of social media posts or a video--ideally a combination of all four.
For a new genre, they must create a new page on Monoskop (an arts Wiki). For an existing genre, they must create or add to a page on Monoskop including links to those already working with the term. They should ideally create a hashtag for their genre and include it on everything they post about it online. They should also, ideally, get in touch with others who have overlapping interests.
About the Instructor

Kai (Kari) Altmann aka Hitashya is a visionary artist, director, performer, singer-songwriter, poet, writer-speaker and musician. Originally from the USA and growing up through several DIY, fame-infused and internet-conscious cultural scenes, including New York and the Post Internet movement, she now has second homebases in India (Mumbai/Goa) and UAE (Dubai), working in the SSWANA to Paris corridor as a “New World” artist and semi-public figure on social media. She considers herself a culturalist; a futurist; a storyteller; a re-worlder and re-wilder; a Post Western creative; and a NewYorker-Mumbiker-Goafornian on permanent world tour. She moves from jungle villes to megacities and pirate ports on a regular basis and is part of a growing scene of globally nomadic creatives who occupy multiple countries and communities at once, creating their own forms of niche, hybrid cultures. She is also a spiritual seeker with a deep interest in health, community and rituals, as well as cultural forms and civilizations across time. As a romantic she is also interested in sensuous, somatic and embodied knowledge as well as forms of play and “rasa”. Beyond cultural and conceptual frameworks, she is also interested in disruption, enchantment and charm—how they work as vital processes and pierce through the filters of overlapping systems to create new realities.
